After less than two years as one of London’s most exciting new music venues, The Flowerpot in Kentish Town announces its closure. The venue’s takeover of the HMV Forum with Foals this New Years Eve will still go ahead as planned though.
Flowerpots promoters have laid the blame for the closure squarely on the shoulders of the current leaseholders who cynically sold the lease from beneath their feet now that the venue has built a solid reputation.
The “Flowerpot” brand is still owned by its promoters who assure Londoners that it will bloom again in a new location early next year – although the building will remain in Kentish Town, it’s heart and soul will move with the Flowerpot into a new location after a last stand this Halloween. They promise to give the closing Kentish Town venue a fitting send off over the last weekend in October, with planned drinks, dancing and live music in an epic end-of-the present-era finale.
The Flowerpot would also like to assure ticket buyers for their New Years Eve show with Foals at the HMV Forum that the event will still go ahead as planned, and supports from Caribou (DJ), Trophy Wife and Chad Valley are now confirmed.
Its promoters have also said how shameful it is the Flowerpot has been forced from its North London home by individuals who are attempting to capitalise on its obvious success. The Flowerpot venue has never been about making money, it has always been about standing as a beacon for emerging performers and new music fans.
The Flowerpot has always championed new music, uniquely never once charging entry into the venue. Since opening it’s doors, Damien Rice, Mumford & Sons, Lissie, Frank Turner, Billy Bragg, Laura Marling, The Kooks, Jamie T, Florence and the Machine, Mr Hudson, Marina and the Diamonds, The Drums, and more recently, Mona, Brother and The Vaccines have all appeared, among hundreds more.
They hope that fans of the venue will understand that the closure of the current Flowerpot was out of their control, and after seeing it off this Halloween, will venture to the HMV Forum this December 31st to see in the New Year with them. The Flowerpot will also use the New Years Eve Party to announce the new home and new era for the home of emerging talent.
All planned shows at The Flowerpot after the Halloween send off will be cancelled, and the promoters apologise for the inconvenience to both the acts booked and the large volume of customers who have loyally supported the venue over the last eighteen months. The new location of the Flowerpot will be announced on NYE as well as on the website link.
