The Wickerman Festival is set to continue. After nine successful years, there is determination to put on a tenth show in July 2011. This will take place on East Kirkcarswell Farm, Dumfries and Galloway. This is the area where the original movie was filmed, keeping the special connection to the heritage and Scotland’s most appreciated music festival going.
The festival started out as a community youth project of just 1500 people, but now is ten times that in numbers alone, but feels in bigger in terms of stature.
People from all over the world travel to this small corner of poetics, music and silent discos in the dark and it is true that the likes of KT Tunstall, The Charlatans and Ocean Colour Scene have headlined with the piece d’ résistance being the seminal burning of the Wickerman at the end of the weekend. This family event keeps its audience in mind and will be charging £85 for tickets (weekend) if you are quick. However, to celebrate the anniversary, 1 in 10 tickets will be sold at the original price of £23 in the first batch of tickets (or those purchased through the Skiddle.com website).
Expect any of the following from film screenings, some of the best bands and solo artists, a fun fair, dance lessons and wood carvings, or something completely new! A truely memorable event with a community atmosphere which always provides the highlight of the festival season.
Described by some as a dream which came true, and clearly a magnificent achievement by all those involved, there is now much anticipation about the line-up. The tickets will be on sale on 31st October for the festival which will take place on July 22nd and 23rd 2011.
