The Producers is a six part documentary series showcasing a selection of the most innovative and exciting producers in the world, working in the Red Bull Studio London as their creative hub. It will premiere on VBS.TV on November 10th.
In each episode, the process will be documented in a considered and artistic way, as each producer collaborates with an artist of their choice in the studio, discussing themes and working on tracks. In addition, the producers personality and musical inspiration will be documented as we leave the studio environment too.
The series kicks off with Sheffield’s foremost beat maker Toddla T, who aside from being a globetrotting DJ, remixer and radio 1 presenter, lists Roots Manuva and Tinchy Stryder as artists he’s produced. Here he joins forces in the studio with Dave Okumu from Mercury Prize-nominated The Invisible.
Other visionary artists in the series include:
• Diplo: one of the world’s most sought after producers (with the likes of M.I.A and Snoop Dogg on his CV) meets his hero Lee Scratch Perry for the first time, culminating in the improvised collaboration between the two at The Red Bull Music Academy Carnival Party.
• Andrew Wyatt: multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist, lead singer of Miike Snow and part of Mark Ronson’s new project, this episode will see Andrew and Mark combine to get stuck into a remix.
• Jamie Reynolds: Klaxons frontman, lover of all things spiritual and psychedelic and keen spotter of new talent, tries his hand at being a record producer, working with new lo-fi outsiders The Cabin Fever.
• Gareth Jones: a genuine pioneer who has worked with everyone from Depeche Mode and Nick Cave to Interpol and Mogwai, unveils his latest collaboration with Emmy the Great
