One of the most important bands of the past 30-years, Gang of Four have been added to the already stellar line-up for next year's NME Awards Shows. And one of the most talked about new bands of the moment, Sleigh Bells, will also be joining the bill.
Playing at Heaven on February 2nd and 14th respectively, they join an Awards Show line-up including Carl Barat, Mystery Jets, Warpaint and Caribou as the NME takes over London for three weeks in the build-up to the hotly anticipated NME Awards ceremony on February 23rd at the O2 Academy Brixton.
Hailing from Leeds, Gang of Four first made their impact with their 1978 Damaged Goods EP. The four-piece guitar band broke boundaries by incorporating reggae and funk with post punk, gaining notoriety with their debut album, Entertainment!, and high energy live performances.
They have inspired the likes of Bloc Party, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Franz Ferdinand, and caused great excitement with their eagerly awaited return in 2005. With their first new material for 16 years in the form of album Content ready to be unleashed on January 24th, their NME Awards Show is set to be something very special indeed.
Meanwhile, Sleigh Bells, are fast making a name for themselves. The duo are one of the latest to break out of the ever-developing Brooklyn music scene.
Their debut album, Treats, was released in May and has gained critical acclaim from all corners, despite the pair only joining forces in 2008.
The NME Awards Shows have a long history of bringing fans the very best in music – from the most exciting new bands, to returning icons and influential legends – and 2011's line-up forges even further ahead showcasing the hottest acts on offer. Tickets for the NME Awards Shows 2011 will be available on pre-sale exclusively through link from 9am on Wednesday 1st December and will be on general release from Friday 3rd December.
