The first announced headliners for the inaugural Honeyfest at the 200 year old Barge Inn pub in Wiltshire are Laura Marling and The Magic Numbers – with a major third headliner still to be announced!
Honeyfest is part of the Barge Inn Community Project, which is funded through Village SOS; a joint venture between BBC1 and the Big Lottery Fund which is supporting villages across the UK to start up new business ventures that rejuvenate rural and village life.
Villagers from around the Vale of Pewsey, in Wiltshire, have been awarded a £433k grant through Village SOS to take over their local pub, the Barge Inn. To launch their project with maximum impact they will be staging a mini-festival, Honeyfest, at the pub on the 18th December. This unique all-dayer is the first of its kind for the area and will help the villagers in their mission to rejuvenate the social hub of the village. As countless rural UK pubs close each year; never has the need for such events in rural areas been more pressing.
Calling on the team behind the award winning Standon Calling festival to produce the event, the top class, international line up includes the blissful harmonies of Mercury nominee Laura Marling, The Magic Numbers, the haunting melodies of Dry the River and eccentric wild cabaret from Gabby Young & Other Animals. This is not your ordinary pub gathering or winter fair! With another exciting headliner still to be revealed this is one Christmas event to knock the socks off all the rest…
As well as supporting the Barge Inn Community Project, the event will also celebrate the birthday of the Barge Inn, which is 200 years old this December! As a thank you to the local community’s support, five hundred tickets have been put aside for people from the community at a discount price of only £20. Tickets are now available from the Barge Inn.
This event is open to all, so people not from the local community can get their tickets for the bargain price of £30 from Ticketweb. link
Mark Cotton, Big Lottery Fund’s Head of Region for the South West, said: “It’s fantastic that we’ve got these bands – some of them household names – supporting the Barge Inn Community Project by playing at Honeyfest in December. They’ve become involved in the festival because they believe in what these villagers are doing and support the wider aims of Village SOS – to help our rural communities flourish.
“It’s clear that community spirit is alive and well here – people are really pulling together to make this project work and are achieving some amazing things. They are going to be an inspiration for other villages across the UK when the TV series airs next year.”
