After being confined to my sick bed for the past week, I could write all about how awful daytime TV is, how Loose Women made me want to gouge my own eyes out when I couldn’t find the remote and how Weetabix gets boring after the second day of eating it. However, I won’t. I’ll write my last X Factor related editorial (until next year) as last night was the final showdown.
The lovely Matt Cardle was announced champion and is set to release Biffy Clyro cover “When We Collide” as his winner’s single. Why they felt the need to change the title of the track from “Many Of Horror” I don’t know. If it’s because it didn’t sound Christmassy enough, pick a different song!!! I wonder what Simon Neil thinks of Matt’s version. No doubt he’ll be rubbing his hands together at the thought of the royalties and Biffy’s version shot up the charts last night thanks to downloads. Do we think Matt will achieve what Joe McElderry didn’t last year though? Or will Cage against The Machine or even the original Biffy track hit the coveted Christmas number 1 instead? I guess we can only sit and wait.
I remember, back in the day, eagerly waiting for Top Of The Pops Christmas Special to come on, keen to know what had hit the top of the charts that year. What would go down in history as being number 1 on that particular Christmas Day? I was as excited as if I, myself, had a shot at the top. Yet now, it seems to mean less. Is that because the charts mean less these days, or because I’ve just grown out of it?
Anyway, I’m better, I’m another year older (ick), I watched Elf and Dirty Dancing last night and it’s nearly Christmas, things aren’t so bad. Plus, on the site this week we have: interviews with Nikita, Kirsty Almeida, Athlete and Cerebral Ballzy; videos from Hurts, The Bullitts, Coldplay and magic man Dynamo; plus competitions to win Tim Minchin DVDs and The Wanted in your living room. Also, the fantastic Haight-Ashbury are on the road.
