Gypsy And The Cat – The Piper's Song

Australian duo Gypsy & the Cat will release their second single ‘The Piper’s Song’ on 13th December.

Already reaching #1 on Hype Machine from a leaked version of the ‘Aeroplane’ remix of the track, this will be the follow-up to the Young & Lost release and Kitsune Maison 9 featured track, ‘Time to Wander’, released in June and will proceed the bands major single and debut album release in early 2011.

‘The Piper’s Song’ is a gorgeous feel-good track that has a soaring epic chorus. It is utterly loveable and completely instant; think the glorious melodies of Fleetwood Mac and the delicious vocals of MGMT and you’re somewhere near. Mixed by Rich Costey (Producer of amongst others, Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Glasvegas, Mew), whilst sounding very current, it has a tranquil retro vibe and is three and a half minutes of endlessly endearing dreampop. A fantastic remix comes courtesy of Italian-Belgium DJ and remix duo Aeroplane.

Influenced by a mixture of musical legends ranging from Jeff Buckley and modern DJs from Justice to Daft Punk, Gypsy & the Cat are 22-year-olds Xavier Bacash & 24-year-old Lionel Towers, who only a year ago began making music in a garage in Melbourne. Their Myspace enticed the love from Australian radio station Triple J who playlisted a demo of the track ‘Jona Vark’. Interest followed, including support from Mark Ronson on his East Village radio show and Neon Gold’s key blog.

After producing and recording their album in their Melbourne home studio, Gypsy & the Cat have now moved to London where they mixed their debut album due out in 2011 with David Fridmann (of Mercury Rev fame and producer of MGMT, Flaming Lips, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah to name a few) and Rich Costey (Producer of amongst others, Muse, Mew, Franz Ferdinand, Glasvegas).
