Best Live Show Of 2010

Looking back over 2010 brings back lots of good memories for me, but there is one that stands out above the rest. A moment that will go down in history as THE best live show of the year.

Paul McCartney at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park – 27th June 2010

Stop for a second and just look at the photo and look at that man screaming down the microphone. Did you know he's a former Beatle? Wrote songs such as 'Yesterday', 'Hey Jude', 'Jet', 'Band on the Run' and other hits, oh and did you know that when he performed in front of thousands and thousands of people at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park on the 27th June 2010 he was 68 years old!

I was fortunate enough to see Macca again for the second time (the first was at a gig on the 21st December 2009 when he was only 67!) and I have to say it was one of the best gigs not only of the year for me but my best gig EVER!

From the count in on the first number especially the beatles hits that Macca played you just couldn't help yourself just standing there and saying to yourself 'Jeez, I'm watching a beatle singing beatles songs LIVE!'. That was going through my mind (for the second time) you don't think it because you are lost with the song but during songs especially like 'Yesterday', 'All My Loving', 'I'm looking Through You' as well as others you were nothing more than just blown away by this awesome experience.

From the moment he stepped on stage at quarter to nine that evening he only went off for two encores and he didn't finally take leave until quarter to eleven that warm night. I mean two hours with only two five minute encores and how long do we see our corporate music stars and our number one artists last only 45 minutes on stage and even have the nerve to sync!? Ladies and Gentlemen why waste £50 on that when you can see this man of sheer musical genius for £65?

That's £15 more you're saying but hey I'll keep it short and sweet – It was worth it! Not only that but Hyde Park is such a lovely venue so big with lots of things to do, bars, food places, merchandise sales and a whole lot more and also Hard Rock Calling itself boasted other acts such as Elvis Costello, Crosby, Stills and Nash and others but they weren't given the attention as THAT world cup match between England and Germany was shown on the big screen.

I suppose you could say I am slightly biased towards this decision to put Macca up for best of 2010, I mean I am a huge beatles fan and out of the other 7-8 gigs I went to this year, I should of chosen somebody that hasn't won very single award and wrote every best song that has come to popular music in the last fifty years.

It may not be The Beatles but my god with time going ever so fast and I have the pleasant fortune to tell my kids and grand-kids – 'I saw Paul McCartney live!'.
