Austra Announce Debut Single

Domino is very excited to announce its newest signing, Austra, and the release of their debut single, ‘Beat and the Pulse’. The track will be available in the UK and Europe on 21st February 2011, on 12” vinyl (RUG385T) and digital formats (RUG385D).

Propelled by a storming electro beat and powerful, evocative vocals, it’s a near perfect fusion of leftfield creativity and solid pop instincts that hits like a truck on first listen and remains lodged in the mind long after, and will defy revelers not to dance in the more forward thinking parts of clubland.

Austra is the brainchild of Canadian born Katie Stelmanis who upon discovering the creative possibilities afforded to her by computer software, and utilizing inspirations as diverse as Puccini, riot-girl, and Nine Inch Nails has crafted an addictively dark dance sound that showcases her incredibly evocative vocal stylings.

Having honed her talents in several Toronto based bands, Katie decided to consolidate her experiences and formed Austra, bringing in long time friends and collaborators, Dorian Wolf on bass, and Maya Postepski as beat programmer and producer.

Austra are currently in the studio with producer Damian Taylor (Bjork, The Prodigy, UNKLE) working on their upcoming debut album which will be released on Domino this Spring/Summer, but in the meantime be sure to check out ‘Beat and the Pulse’ as the heralding of a true talent to watch out for.
