Acclaimed singer-songwriter Keren Ann releases her new album ‘101’ in the UK on 4th April.
An intoxicating and remarkable record, ‘101’ marks a new shift in sound for Keren Ann, as evidenced by the captivating first single ‘My Name Is Trouble’ which you can hear in full right now on link.
The follow-up to 2007’s eponymous album, which was variously hailed by the UK press as “wonderful… spine-tingling… gorgeous… intoxicating… exquisite… perfection”, with rave reviews in the likes of Q, Word, Sunday Times, The Guardian and more, ‘101’ is Keren Ann’s sixth studio album and her third for EMI. Recorded in Reykjavik, New York, Paris and Tel Aviv ‘101’ beguiles and intrigues.
From its striking cover art, through its lyrical sophistication to its myriad musical styles this is a stunning piece of work which sees Keren Ann inhabiting a new artistic world and creating a masterpiece. Written, arranged, produced and engineered by Keren Ann it features choirs, string sections, horns, synths, pianos and a full band beautifully balanced throughout, as the evocative stories Keren Ann sings come to perfect life.
From ‘My Name Is Trouble’s opening statement of intent to the imaginary audience slaughter of ‘Blood On My Hands’, these are noir-ish vignettes, tempting the listener into Keren Ann’s world. ‘Sugar Mama’ is a tale of vacuous LA-superstar seduction whilst the title track itself is a countdown of Biblical intensity, and each of these songs, beautifully entwined with lyrical majesty, entrance and entertain in a way few songwriters ever achieve.
