John Legend And The Roots Announce New Single

John Legend and the Roots announce their brand new single ‘Shine’ is to be released on February 14th. Taken from the critically acclaimed album ‘Wake Up’, ‘Shine’ is the only original track on the album and is a powerful piano led ballad described as ‘Stevie Wonder meets Gospel’, and is written by John Legend. It features in the upcoming film ‘Waiting for Superman’.

‘Wake Up’ has taken the world by storm, and not only has it earned John Legend and The Roots an incredible 5 Grammy nominations, but it appeared across the board in the ‘albums of the year’ polls from Q to Mojo to The Times to The Evening Standard.

The highly acclaimed album features soulful music from the 60’s and 70’s all with an underlying theme of awareness, engagement and consciousness— effectively telling listeners to Wake Up!

After being inspired by the recent historical Presidential election campaign of 2008, the R&B singer Legend and hip-hop band The Roots felt a need to enter the action. What started as plans for a single quickly developed into a passionate album representing change, hope and activism— not only referencing one particular moment in time, but on a larger scale, holding true no matter what the political climate may be.
