Badly Drawn Boy – I Saw You Walk Away

The independent musical eminence of the Bolton wordsmith, Damien Gough, continues to grow and sprout out in different directions.

For this foraging snippet, it’s in a winding soul/lounge pop direction that Badly Drawn Boy heads towards in order to communicate the need to control your own destiny:
“If I don’t crucify myself, somebody will. If I don’t do this thing myself, nobody will.”

A comforting keys filtered instrumental, rubs warmly against Gough’s hard-wearing, but strangely warming vocals. Blues protagonist Denis Jones gives a chilling stutter to the track for his remix, lending a Mogwai vibe to the track.

Musing maturity continues to ooze from the honest Badly Drawn Boy, as heart is still perpetually bled into his music.

Rating: 3.5./5
