UK Rock trio TEMPLETON PEK are set to release a thirtysecond single “30 Seconds Too Far” on January 31st, along with a full blown music video to accompany it in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. In an attempt to chart as the shortest song officially released ever in the UK, the single will see all profits donated to Teenage Cancer Trust.
The band, a credible seasoned touring act in their own right, from club tours to arena shows, feels like shaking up the system. “We really wanted to release something that makes a statement and impact in the industry. The current machine churns out and revolves around 3 minute 30 second generic songs,’ because the ‘industry’ dictates that. So we thought we’d go against the grain…” explains singer Neal Mitchell. “The whole point of the release is to show you don’t have to follow the formula, you can be free to do what you want.”
TP are gearing up for the release of their eagerly awaited second album ‘Scratches & Scars’ on February 18th 2011 and are purveyors in the art of DIY. Not only did they write their forthcoming release they recorded and produced it themselves. “Basically we felt the only people who could fully represent what we’re trying to do on this album were ourselves. It was a massive learning curve and we poured in our combined experience of touring and production, to produce something that we are all massively proud of. The result is something that isn’t watered down by going through the industry ‘assembly line’ process.”
Every day in the UK, six young people (aged 13 to 24) are told they have cancer. Usually placed on a children’s ward or with elderly patients, young people often feel extremely isolated when facing a cancer diagnosis. Teenage Cancer Trust build units in NHS hospitals that offer young people specialist care, bringing them together so they can support each other in an environment suited to them. The units’ home-from-home’ feel creates a sense of normality, containing social areas with pool tables, comfy sofas, music, laptops, wifi, Skype and TVs. They are bright and vibrant and designed to give young people the very best chance of a positive outcome. There are currently 17 of these units across the country and the charity aims to build a further 16 so that all young people needing hospital treatment for cancer have access to the dedicated specialist support they provide.
As well as specialist units, Teenage Cancer Trust also funds a number of services all with the same goal – to help young people fight cancer. These include clinical and research staff, an education programme for schools, family support networks and an annual conference for young cancer patients. All the monies raised from the proceeds of this single will go towards helping young people fight cancer.
