As you’re probably aware, Bruno Mars’ new single ‘Grenade’ went straight to no.1 in the UK charts on Sunday, selling a staggering 149,834 copies in its first week. That’s 3 times the amount the no.2 single sold.
Fact fans: That’s the biggest first week sales for a single released in January since Babylon Zoo’s Spaceman in 1996!
Pop sensation Bruno Mars has had quite a week and there is even more to come!
Bruno, who is in the UK this week to launch his debut album ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’, told the Radio 1 Chart Show last night about his love for this country.
“[It’s] such a special place for me, I just love it out here. I think the people are great.” He also hinted that we might be getting him on a more permanent basis, saying “It’s just this is where it’s at for me. I’m getting a house over here; I know it. That’s the next investment.”
Bruno finished off with a message to all of his fans this side of the Atlantic. “I would love to thank all the UK fans, thank you guys so much for supporting my career and everything that I’m doing.”
Bruno’s first headline UK tour Doo-Wops & Hooligans Tour sold out in record time on Friday, along with his special album release show at Café De Paris, which sold out on pre-sale alone. He has earned himself his first BRIT Award Nomination in the International Breakthrough Act category and to top that all off, his debut album ‘Doo-Wops & Hooligans’ was, due to demand, pulled forward a week early to be released today and is already set to smash the charts.
In 2010, Bruno Mars as a writer, producer and performer was responsible for over 2.5 million single sales in the UK alone, including hits he penned for Cee-Lo, Travie McCoy and of course his very own debut solo single ‘Just The Way You Are’. On YouTube there have been over 300 million views on Bruno Mars content and the man of the moment shows absolutely no signs of slowing down; just last week his first UK headline tour was announced – once going on sale on Friday he sold out all three regional dates plus two consecutive nights at Koko in London within minutes.
Now with a BRIT Nomination under his belt there is nothing this man cannot do – smashing the charts, selling millions of singles worldwide and with his debut album hitting the shelves today it is only upwards for this musical tornado!
