Oscar 2011 Nominations

A solid if predictable list this year, with only a few surprises added to the list. The biggest surprise is how highly the awards think of Christopher Nolan’s Writing skills.  Clearly it has been proved for over a decade now that Nolan really is a top notch WRITER, So it is great to see his writing skills being noticed in a film that has award nominations coming out of its ears. It didn’t get nominated in every category; but at least we all now can appreciate Nolan’s writing skills in a film that seems to have directed itself.

There is the debate about what a supporting actor and a leading actor is. Hailee Steinfeld clearly had a leading role in True Grit and yet is in the supporting category, while Jeff Bridges who had less screen time is in the leading actor category?  Still, it probably improves her highly deserved chances of winning a statue as it seems the money is on Portman for winning lead actress.
