The BAFTAs are one of the most recognized award ceremonies in the world – perhaps not as high as the Oscars, but probably on a par with the golden Globes. Still The BAFTAs do have a nasty habit of listing and award more British films than any others, which probably what keeps it from being as recognized as the Oscars (having said that – we can hardly call BIAS on The King’s Speech). 

Still it is nice to have our own Awards and even if they are just as biased as others, they do manage to help boost the reputation of smaller more independent films which keeps the spirit of them alive – not to mention added box office.
