Gold Panda Wins Guardian First Album Award 2010

Capping off a stunning 2010 and helping to kick start a new year, Gold Panda has been awarded the Guardian First Album Award. Announced today, the prize for Lucky Shiner, his hugely acclaimed debut LP, saw off competition from Marina & The Diamonds, Everything Everything and Delphic amongst others.

Described by the Guardian as 'a combination of warm, lo-fi electronica, a patchwork of crackly samples and melodies that stick', the newspaper based its decision upon the fact that Lucky Shiner was 'the album the panel have found themselves coming back to the most'. A fair and enjoyable old-fashioned reason for issuing the accolade.

The most acclaimed new electronic artist of 2010, Gold Panda has already announced a raft of activity for 2011. Following up his sold-out show at Corsica Studios in November, tickets for his headline show at East London's XOYO are on sale now. Immediately prior to that show, a new EP, 'Marriage', will be delivered on 28th February, his first release since Lucky Shiner emerged in October last year. A full UK tour will be announced shortly.

'Marriage' is a stand out track from Lucky Shiner, and will come backed by a host of additional tracks, including reworks by Baths, Star Slinger and Forest Swords. Available digitally, the new release clears the decks in anticipation of all-new material for later in the year. Before then, Gold Panda will be playing dates in Belgium, Holland, Czech Republic and Germany. Dates in Ireland, Scandinavia and France follow later in the spring alongside a full scale North American tour and SXSW appearance. For a full list of shows, see below.

Tickets for XOYO with support from Minotaur Shock and Seams are available now, priced at £10 from link 08444 771000 and link 0870 264 3333.

Lucky Shiner featured in end of year lists by Rough Trade, Pitchfork, Stereogum, Independent on Sunday, Loud & Quiet, Drowned in Sound, DJ Mag, iTunes, Mixmag, Clash, Groove, Metacritic, Mojo, Banquet Records, NPR, Bleep, Les inRock, Pure Groove, plus countless others for the tracks You and Snow & Taxis, Gold Panda has had an extraordinary year.
