On 15th October 2010 the world witnessed what has hereby gone down in history as ‘Fiasco Friday’, when hoards of Lupe Fiasco devotees stormed the Atlantic Records HQ in New York City and demanded the label release Lupe Fiasco’s third album – NOW! Such is the immense love for one of music’s greatest wordsmiths and rappers – “Luke Skywalker to Kayne’s West’s Obi Wan Kenobi” – Independent.
Roll on three months and the wait is finally over as Lupe Fiasco has graced fans and music lovers everywhere with brand new single The Show Goes On. The single, out on 21st February, has already knocked up a spin on Radio 1 as Zane Lowe’s ‘Hottest Record’, with the video close to reaching – to date – 2,200,000 views on YouTube alone.
The Show Goes On samples American indie heroes Modest Mouse, layered with Lupe Fiasco’s head-spinning wordplay and encompasses all the factors and magic which enable Lupe Fisaco to inhabit both the worlds of respected, credible underground and mainstream adoration simultaneously, and all with his trademark effortless cool.
Lupe Fisaco has already knocked up three Grammy and four BET Hip Hop Award nominations, had recognition as a past GQ’s ‘Breakthrough Man of the Year’ and graced NME’s coveted ‘Cool List’. His last album The Cool went Gold in the UK, with NME hailing it a “conceptually bonkers masterpiece”, with A-list plays at Radio 1 and huge support from influential specialist channels 1-Xtra and 6Music, and the likes of Capitol and Galaxy.
Lupe Fiasco’s undeniably long-awaited and hugely in demand third album Lasers is released on 7th March on Atlantic Records.
