The Hoosiers, Edith Bowman And Daisy Lowe Join Celebs To Hand Over Their Wallets For Oxfam Fundraising Sale

A host of celebrities including The Hoosiers, and DJ’s Daisy Lowe and Edith Bowman have donated their wallets to support Oxfam’s new 100% giving fundraising campaign.

All the celebrity wallets will be available for the public to buy in a special one day sale via the Oxfam online shop at link on Sunday 20th February, with all proceeds going to Oxfam’s causes.

A host of fashionistas and celebrities – including model Daisy Lowe, stylish chef Gizzi Erskine and The Hoosiers – have ‘voted with their wallet’ by donating them to Oxfam in support of its new 100% giving campaign, a new way to give to charity.

Each wallet, complete with a ‘purse-onal’ item or message from the owner, will be sold on Oxfam’s online charity shop on 20th February.

Wallets donated to date include:

• Daisy Lowe: Lulu Guinness sequined purse

• Gizzi Erskine: Miu Miu cardholder

• Edith Bowman: vintage coin-purse

• Pearl Lowe: green Vivienne Westwood wallet

• Ravinder Bhogal: Liberty of London leather purse

• The Hoosiers: well-toured leather wallets

• Martin Lewis: wallet bound by lock and chain

• The Apprentice’s Nick Hewer: black leather cardholder

• Levi Roots: black wallet with leather dividers

100% giving is the first time ever that a major UK charity is offering a donation scheme where every penny is guaranteed to go directly to the cause. This is possible because PayPal is paying the running costs on all donations made to the charity in February via link.

The exact price of each wallet will be crowd-sourced, with fans invited to say what they think it’s worth via the Oxfam twitter channel (twitter.com/oxfamgb) from 14th February. With designer names and vintage treasures amongst the haul, shoppers stand a great chance of bagging a bargain.

‘Purse-onal’ items left behind in the wallets include a plectrum from the Hoosiers’ last tour, whilst Martin Lewis has stuffed his full of money-saving mantras.

The Hoosiers said: “We think Oxfam & PayPal’s 100% giving campaign is a great concept as every penny you give through PayPal will go straight to the people and causes Oxfam helps around the world. We hope everyone joins us in showing their support for a scheme that will make a real difference to those in need.”

Edith Bowman comments: “I’m delighted to be able to lend my support to 100% giving as it’s a clever but simple way of helping the public’s donations go as far as possible.”

Ordinarily, for every £1 donated to Oxfam, 81p goes directly to programme work to tackle poverty, while 19p is spent on essential running costs (for instance training staff to work in the toughest conditions, getting vital equipment out to emergency situations). During February PayPal will cover these costs every time a donation is made via PayPal, meaning that every donation goes further and exclusively to the charity’s lifesaving programme work.

100% giving runs throughout February, with a view to establishing an entirely new model for donating to charities over the next decade.

The public can join celebrities in ‘voting with their wallet’ by making a donation to 100% giving. Those who think the initiative is a great idea can also go one step further and literally hand over their used wallets and purses to Oxfam shops in support.

Oxfam and PayPal have joined forces to launch 100% giving, a groundbreaking new partnership that sees PayPal paying for the running costs on every donation made to the charity in February via link. This means that for the first time ever, a UK charity is offering a donation scheme through which 100% of every donation is guaranteed to go directly to the cause because a corporate partner is paying for the running costs.
