Bearsuit – When Will I Be Queen?

As Royal wedding fever grips the nation, dance-punk five-piece Bearsuit release their new single When Will I Be Queen? on February 28.

But an ode for Kate Middleton this ain’t. Unless you’d find “no more waity” boozing it up with broken heels and smudged mascara to a Tech Noir soundtrack of filthy bass, killer beats, schizophrenic vocals and sinister synths on her hen night.

Infectious, arrogant, and with a keyboard riff that sounds like the bastard love-child of Daft Punk and Kraftwerk, Bearsuit’s new single is a sovereign masterpiece, produced by drummer Joe Naylor.

The new single comes ahead of the band’s eagerly anticipated album The Phantom Forest on March 14 on Fortuna POP! The 12-track long-player heralds a fierce new sound for the band, who have swapped violins, flutes and horns for dirty synths, urgent guitars and infectious beats in the light of a dramatic line-up change. With a sprinkling of sonic dust from big-time producer Gareth Parton (The Go Team, Breeders, Foals) the band have created a perfectly off-the-wall pop masterpiece.

The disco-synth debut single Please Don’t Take Him Back was playlisted on BBC 6Music in October, as well as being hotly tipped in the music press including Artrocker. Weeks later and their second release A Train Wreck was rated an NME Top 10 Download and Track of the Day at Clash Magazine.

The band lead into 2011 having secured a profile slot at the SXSW festival in Texas for Huw Stephens’ Radio 1 showcase.

Based in Norwich, the band consists of Iain Ross on guitar and keyboards, Lisa Horton on keyboards, and Jan Robertson on guitar and keyboards, with new recruits Charlene Katuwawala on bass and keyboards and Joe Naylor on drums. All five sing.

The band, who have have previously supported the likes of Crystal Castles, You Say Party!, and Hot Chip, hit the road for a headline UK tour next month.
