THE FLAMIN’ GROOVIES are American powerpop legends founded in San Francisco in 1965 by Ron Greco, Cyril Jordan and Roy Loney.Best known for their deathless single ‘Shake Some Action’, the band were a key influence on the punk rock movement of the late 1970s. Roy Loney left the band in 1971 after the classic ‘Teenage Head’ album, but in the last couple of yearsLoney andJordan have reunited and performed live to critical acclaim at festivals like the “Ponderosa Stomp”, backed by members of The A-Bones. This will be the first time Cyril and Roy have ever performed live together in the UK.
ELI PAPERBOY REED & THE TRUE LOVES Boston Soul sensation Eli Paperboy Reed has stirred up a storm in the UK since his appearance on ‘Later with Jools Holland’ in November 2008. He also received a nomination for best breakthrough artist of the year from Mojo magazine in 2009. On his major label debut, Come and Get It, Reed proves to be the life of a soulful, sweaty party in which everyone eventually gets dragged onto the dance floor. Admirers have likened Reed to such luminaries as Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett; the Boston Herald called him “Boston’s answer to Sam Cooke.” A thunderous buzz eventually brought Eli to the attention of Capitol Records and a growing fan base all over Europe with much more to come from Mr Reed.
THE DRAGTONES are a truly international act, a nuclear powered explosion of frantic and wild rock’n’roll, featuring screaming guitars, thumping drums and deranged vocals. The band are a 5 piece unit of misfits, who are also members of some of the most vibrant and popular live bands on the desperate rock'n'roll scene today. Rhys Webb and Coffin Joe from The Horrors have a new side project THE DIDDLERS playing rousing renditions of the late great Bo Diddley’s vast back catalogue with true Brit grit like their forefathers The Rolling Stones and The Pretty Things. After a debut single that sold out in under a week THE SEE SEE set off on a support tours with The Raconteurs and The Brian Jonestown Massacre and earned a reputation for lively, exuberant and occasionally chaotic live shows, The See See have released three 7” to date and the debut album will be out on February 7th 2011.
DC FONTANA have earned the reputation of must see live act and released a stunning debut album called “Six against Eight”. The last of the Brits are Brighton lads the SHOESTRUNG whose strong song writing and great live performances will surely earn them a recording contract in 2011. The last two acts have recorded for Dirty Water Records and make first UK appearances at the DWR showcase. THE ROUTES are from the mountain region of Japan but there influences are firmly British and American Wild Garage sounds.
