Ricky Ranking is working on a new album which will be released in the near future on the Banana Klan record label once all the tweaking is complete. He has not released many records in fact, he has only previously released the Dub College Volume one Mixtape although there are more contributions to the soundscape of life. He has featured on Roots Manuva records like ‘Again & Again’ (Slime and Reason) as well as ‘Bashment Boogie’ (Run Come Save Me).
‘The Healing’ is from the mixtape and has an interesting story behind the recording of it. Wayne Lotek gave Ricky a tape of 12 beats with this one being the standout, Ricky was quickly forced in to recording the track at the Counterclockwise Studio in Melbourne, Australia. This was a very wise decision. Also, Roots is on the mix giving a spit, reciprocating those treasured times when Ricky did the same.
This promo copy is a more refined version with a soulful hook and chorus than the Mixtape version and should be hurriedly sought by all. Immersed in dub culture and taking its own special place, you can hear the promotional record on Youtube and download an MP3 from the Banana Klan website. Then you should wait with baited breath for the long player release. I, for one, am bubbling hot.
