Sugarcult have announced three European dates in April this year. The Santa Barbara (US) based rock band will play the 20th anniversary of the Groezrock Festival in Belgium on April 23rd, alongside Descendents, Dropkick Murphys, NOFX and many more. Before their Groezrock appearance, Sugarcult will be playing two exclusive UK shows, at Birmingham’s Academy 2 on April 20th and London’s Isslington Academy on April 21st.
After selling over a million records worldwide, playing hundreds of shows around the globe, and supporting Blink 182 and Green Day on arena tours, Sugarcult celebrated their ten year anniversary in 2009. Shortly thereafter, the band decided to call in a semi-hiatus. “It had been 10 years of nonstop band activity, and we felt like it was the right time to focus on our personal lives and projects outside of Sugarcult”, says Sugarcult guitarist Marko DeSantis.
Singer, Tim Pagnotta produced (and co-wrote several songs on) the debut album from Neon Trees whose song “Animal” has become a #1 hit single in the US. Such success has lead to many writing and producing projects for Tim.
Bass player, Airin produced and played bass in Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. Their song “Home” has become a national sensation and they have gained a strong reputation for being an amazing live band.
Guitarist, Marko DeSantis started a family, did a record with The Playing Favorites, has DJ’d events from Russia to London to Tokyo to New York City, did shows with Bad Astronaut (with Joey Cape/Lagwagon), and also hosts a weekly internet radio show called Endless Party! Radio on link.
Drummer, Kenny Livingston started a charity that raises money and awareness for healthy living called link. To launch it, he rode his bicycle across America, coast to coast from LA to DC, last summer solo! Kenny also plays in a music side-project called Good Man Down, alongside Kevin of Lit.
Even though all the side-projects have been very successful, Sugarcult have always missed touring, so when they were asked to play the 20th anniversary of Groezrock festival, it didn’t take them long to decide to get back to Europe: Marko added, “Every time we get together and do a show, we experience a sort of magical chemistry between each other as musicians and people. It’s bigger than love. It’s so powerful to share this musical communion with each other and our fans. We are so excited to return and reconnect after so many years. Thank you to our loyal fans for being so patient and always leaving a light on for us.”
