Time we had a Sonisphere update! The third year of this festival has moved to the dates of Friday 8th – Sunday 10th July instead of it’s late July spot from previous years.
We have already announced that The Big Four will be playing the Friday evening, and that Biffy Clyro and Slipknot are headlining Sat/Sunday respectively.
Saturday you can also expect to see the likes of Weezer, The Mars Volta, Sum 41 and Gallows. Sunday you will find Limp Bizkit, Motorhead, Mastadon, Airbourne and Opeth.
Other bands putting in shows are The Sisters of Mercy (we expect to be late Friday or Saturday performance at the Bohemia tent!) and Killing Joke come back again for their second appearance.
Overall there is a fine blend of bands both old and new to the festival, but also quite a blend of genres. Last year saw hints that Sonisphere was not only concerned with rock bands. This band seems to be evidence of that. How this will go down with more hard edged fans remains to be seen, but at least they will appeal to a younger demographic – despite the fact that they tend to sell out the festival anyway!
But we reported on both previous years and Sonisphere easily became out favourite festival among the writers. It’s not too big, but big enough to soak up a proper atmosphere – and obviously we have had the pleasure to see some of our gods of rock take the stage. Fingers crossed they get a few more before July hits!
