Introducing: NEeMA

It takes something special to stand out from the wealth of acoustifolk (I just coined that myself, wonder if it'll catch on?) nowadays. NEeMA certainly has that something, as far as I'm concerned.

Hailing from Montreal, Canada – singer/songwriter NEeMA is Leonard Cohen's Protégé. He had this to say about her work: “in the midst of all the static, a voice of true feeling arises – a rare event!” – you are not wrong, Leonard. The track accompanying the video above – “Elsa's Lullaby” – is haunting, delicious, phenomenal – I'm running out of superlatives. It's bloody brilliant. Members of Arcade Fire also play instruments on her album Watching You Think, which is already out in the US – yet sadly we have to wait until July 27th here in the UK. No fair.

By now, you'll be listening to the track, and that warm feeling will rush through your body as you smile the broadest, most natural smile you've boasted yet this morning. That's what great music like this can do to you; until you hear it, you don't realise you've been missing it.

NEeMA is touring Europe this June/July – thank the world. More information about these dates – which include supports for Joe Cocker and Jeff Beck – can be found at link.
