Benjamin Francis Leftwich – Box Of Stones

WHILE not a runaway hit at first listen, Box of Stones is a bit of a grower.

The debut track from Benjamin Francis Leftwhich wouldn’t seem out of place during a lovers look up at a starry skied New York night after a bitter break up.

It’s long and it’s haunting and it’s dark.

Just the way he likes it.

Another tune to add to the ever growing list of decent folk rock out there, Box of Stones certainly isn’t without its merits.

With guitar and vocals slightly akin to the Arctic beauty of a Sigor Ros sensation, and tone mirroring the great Elliott Smith, it’s worth taking two minutes to mull over Leftwich’s ideas which come neatly packaged in a montage of nature lyrics.

Short yet sweet in it’s delivery, this is perfect for a homely night in the whisky bar, and a rousing final forty seconds of acoustic love is great payoff for the world weary traveller.

Calm, collective and Earthen, Box of Stones should punt Mr Leftwich right up into the ring of contenders for the best of 2011.
