And So I Watch You From Afar – Manchester Deaf Institute

Tonight Ireland comes in full force, and that’s without the pomposity of Bono. Lisburn’s Mojo Fury give it to ‘The Mann’ via the piercing and deformed realms of their warped guitars, echoing ghoulishly as the stabbing guitars cut down the rope holding everything together. Really, ‘We Should Just Run Away’ as the synths glisten and bubble like a diluted NIN and Michael Mormecha’s voice gurns and growls through gritted teeth like a bulldog seconds from attack. He finally retrieves the ‘Bones’ as the drop tuned guitars rears its heavy head before adding a shattered chaos to the otherwise calm swirl of pianos.

But it’s And So I Watch You From Afar that manage to put the leash back on Mojo Fury in a more furious manner. ‘Don’t Waste Time Doing Things You Hate’ shakes the antithesis perfectly between the tranquil bouncing guitar and the bi-polar eccentricity of its burning chorus, warping into the unrecognisable as it thrusts an apocalyptic might crushing the waterfalling peace of the verse. ‘Set Guitars to Kill’ truly is murderous. The distorted feedback sends shockwaves of anxiety through the siren rings like there were a conflict being announced and ‘Lifeproof’ is the final blitzkrieg as everything rattles into unrest as the guitar soar from the rapid bullet storm of the intro to the captivating flight of racing tones.
