“The Ballad” is taken from New Look's forthcoming debut album, and is released on June 27th on !K7.
Speaking about the video, director Will Davidson said: “Somewhere between the start and the end of every journey there's a stretch of freeway we've all travelled. Beyond the headlights darkness dissolves the world and there's only the lovers, the '65 Fairlane and the blacktop – this is their Ballad. The motion hypnotises, the mind wanders, and our spirit billows out the passenger window, projects through the windshield bewitching visions across the drifting fog. While the road stretches out unbending, our velocity takes an uncertain direction and for a little while, we leave ourselves behind.”
The synth-pop record from Sarah Ruba and Adam Pavao aka New Look is encapsulated in this track: “We recorded the song four different times, the vision of this was so strong and clear in our minds that it took us so many times to get it how we knew it should be,” Ruba explains. “We attempted it twice in Berlin, once in New York and finally got it in Canada. The song is a message to someone we know and even though it’s a fleeting message to them, we would never want them to find out. It’s too personal.”
