Absolutely beautiful – above is “Milk”, the debut single from Bristolian four-piece The Bronze Medal. Formd in the autumn of 2009 in the aftermath of a six-week busking-funded backpacking trip through Europe, the band returned home and wrote their experiences.
A few genres spring to mind instantly with The Bronze Medal – there's a definite post-rock influence, instrumentally – the guitars scream Explosions In The Sky, for instance. The vocals, catchy as hell, combine everything good about Snow Patrol whilst retaining their soul – not an easy feat.
The band played their first run of UK shows last summer, selling out venues in their native Bristol, Cardiff, Bath, Newport, Norwich and Exeter. The same summer saw them play Dot to Dot festival and support such acts as Chapel Club, Brother and Anberlin.
“Milk” is released June 20th on East City Records, and – with a bit of luck – is the beginnings of great things from The Bronze Medal. One to watch out for.
