100 Film Noirs

Editor: Jim Hillier & Alastair Phillips

This editor’s list of 100 essential film noir watches is an ideal guide for those looking to get heavily into the genre.

The book has a lengthy introduction before getting into the 100 on the list. In this section the authors question what film noir is, discuss its emergence, ponder its stability as a genre and look at the narrative style. Very handy as those familiar with noir cinema know how it bends and flops all over the place in and out of other genres.

The list itself gives you generally a couple of peoples on each film with credit information on the film and written text about each.

There is also a decent list of further reading for reference as well – which is where you will be heading after reading this book.
