Eyeborgs is set in a not too distant future where literally all of our moves are being watched but a variety of robotic camera systems. This ranges from common place CCTV, to webcam looking mini robots on two legs, to the arachnid looking giant patrol units that walk the streets.
When a fanatic goes tries to kill a young relative of the President, Adrian Paul’s cop (Highlander fame) gets assigned to the case, and slowly uncovers a plot going on, and finds that our robotic friends are turning against us – assassinating those in the know.
This film is shot very much on the cheap, despite a large variety of effects on display – you can tell it’s a cheapie as firstly Adrian Paul is the leading actor, Danny Trejo makes a cameo appearance, and that many scenes take place in the lobby of what is probably really an educational institute (All walkways and glass fronts – which lends a futuristic look) instead of inside the offices of a police headquarters.
Still the film is more enjoyable than it has a right to be. Yes it plods through the motions building suspense, offing a few minor characters before our lead gets to grips with what is going on. But once he does there are a few nice little twists to the plot before it reaches its climax.
Clever is what it becomes, so all applause to the writing team for putting in something that an audience can think and work with. If you don’t mind budget constraints on your movie then Eyeborgs is worth a peek.
