“For The Asking”, the first track on this extended EP, is good enough of a song to serve a title track, being a strong three-minute blast of what the band do best – gloomy yet upbeat indie pop (think Editors, Interpol) laden with terrific hooks.
There’s more of the same in the first five tracks which make up the EP proper (the rest consists of live tracks and remixes), all of which are well-crafted and boasting the kinds of killer choruses which separate the wheat from the chaff.
There isn’t a bad song on this disc, with “Radiate” a particularly rousing number and the band’s version of U2’s “New Year’s Day” a masterclass in tasteful yet ambitious interpretation. A very promising outing indeed from this intriguing new group.
