Bass Klpeh – aka former rock drummer-turned-DJ/producer Stu Tyson – is widely regarded as Australia's biggest dance music export.
With his released signed to Great Stuff, Toolroom, Defected, Stealth, Definitive and more – remix requests are in abundance for the tablesmith – Jesse Voorn, D. Ramirez, Moguai and Westbam have all rendered his services.
Bass Kleph: Presents captures his recent highlights on a debut compilation that ebbs and flows funky, classy hypnotic grooves. Think that insanely cool club that you feel out of place in.
Aged 15, Kleph was already touring as the drummer of the successful Auzzie rock band Loki. The rhythmic education he received in grubby rock venues obviously stands him in good stead, however the rock world has truly lost him. He comments:
“I remember when Loki got its first album back from mastering. I'd been listening to Squarepusher and The Prodigy. Everyone else was stoked with the way the album sounded – but I thought 'why are the drums so quiet? Why is it all about the guitar?'”
It's not all about the guitar anymore, mate. Rock's loss is dance's gain, and Bass Kleph's ear for live performances is gathering critical acclaim – he regularly tours the UK, Europe and the US, don't you know?
Catch Bass Kleph all over the world this summer, quite literally – he has dates in Australia (where it's not really summer right now, but shh), South Africa (wait, it's not summer there either), Japan and Holland in the coming months.
