Death In Vegas – Trans-Love Energies

Death In Vegas are back with another album after a bit of a break.

Starting off morbidly slow in “Silver Time Machine” any sense that this could well be a slow and painful listen is lifted with the more rock-centric “Black Hole.”

Vegas of course are a band that don’t dwell too often on one note and for this album they let their moods swing back and forth like a spoilt child who is never happy with one great thing until they have the next.

They picked a great first single in “Your loft My Acid” as it is a very catching tune with its repetitive hooks well in place. It’s clearly one of the more insane works at play here, but has been structured to promote what you might normally have as background riffs and vocals as the songs strengths. It’s a great tune with a very early to mid 90’s techno feel about it.

The majority of the rest of the album though is one big experiment. Now the trouble could be that with, as mentioned above, they are so experimental that they never fixate on any one thing or chose a well defined path. Contradictory to what was mentioned above? Sure. But whilst variety can indeed be the spice of life, it’s also nice for it not all to sound just random. This of course will have its ups for the sake of progressing music, but it can often leave a listener frustrated who are looking for something with a bit more definition to it.

For my money – I think it’s a record that attempts bravery, but with its free-will nature it may well go overlooked and not studied for all its worth.
