Background
Cars 2, Flo’s you may know is pretty much home to our lead characters – so makes sense we get a few of the desert roaming locals including our two leads as part of the set.
Building
You start with the cars – and it’s great fun watching each car take shape. Mater in particular is great fun as he has more shape and additions like his big Hook at the back of his pick-up, and wing mirrors that serve as ears to his big goofy face.
The Car Wash and Fuel stands are fairly simply to put together, and become very practical to use as well. The main Cafe stand itself is a nice centre piece and offers you the chance to fire your care out via a plunge activated piece on the roof that propels any cars you place at the bottom of the piece. For kids this will be a blast, but for adults it will have limited appeal. But the cafe is more of a joy for the big kids to put together and admire as it’s a nicely themed 50’s looking piece. Although considering it takes place in a land full of cars instead of people we are a little confused by the inclusion of a drinking mug on one of the tables. But it’s probably not a good idea to think about such things.
Finished Product
Flos Cafe itself isn’t too bad for a mid-size set. It can look a bit skeletal when sitting by itself, so best to have the cars interacting as much as possible. Obviously the downside for the Cars series as a cartoon, and especially as a toy is that cars are not people, so you can’t have your figures/cars interacting too much with the building, and the inside of each building will only have so much inside detail. But they have kept most of the attributes as car related as possible including the Car Wash and Gas Pump.
The cars are really what make this set stand out, and note you get six of them with this set. We also covered the Big Bentley set which also comes with the Lightning McQueen and Mater characters, but in that set you get different versions. Here is the classic versions of the characters. So it’s nice that even in these sets you get variations on the characters
