Best British Exports

New thriller DREAM HOUSE tells the tale of successful publisher Will Attenton (Daniel Craig) quits a high-power job in Manhattan to relocate his wife, Libby (Rachel Weisz), and two girls to a quaint New England town. To celebrate the release of DREAM HOUSE on November 25th, and its fantastic British cast, we’ve had a look at the actors and actresses which show off the best of Blighty talent!

Daniel Craig

One of the stars of DREAM HOUSE, Mr Craig started his career in television, and a small role as Lara Croft’s love interest in Tomb Raider (2001).  Roles in Road to Perdition (2002) and Layer Cake (2004) catapulted him into stardom, and he currently stars as everyone’s favourite spy and ladies man James Bond in the popular franchise.

Rachel Weisz

This now world famous actress was practically unknown when she was picked to star opposite Brendan Frasier in mega blockbuster The Mummy (1999). The film was a hit, and a sequel and many other starring roles such as The Constant Gardner (2005) led to an Academy Award for Rachel Weisz.

Jim Broadbent

This theatre actor moved to film in the early 1980’s, striking up strong working relationships with Mike Leigh and Terry Gilliam on films such as Time Bandits (1981). More recently he’s been back in both Hollywood game with starring roles in Moulin Rouge (2001) and the Harry Potter films (2001 – 2011), but still staying true to his roots he has also starred in UK films such as The Damned United (2009) and Hot Fuzz (2007).

Naomi Watts

Another British actress with a starring role in DREAM HOUSE, Naomi Watts actually began her career in Australian TV including a stint in popular soap Home and Away (1988 -). She spent most of the 1990’s starring in B-movies, and shot to international stardom (and critical acclaim) for her role in Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s  drama 21 Grams (2003).

Anthony Hopkins

Hailing from a small suburb in Wales, this actor is best known for his role as Hannibal Lecter in Silence of The Lambs (1991). He received an Oscar for this role, and was knighted by the Queen in 1993. Unknown to many people, he started out as an understudy to Laurence Olivier, and was greatly admired by him, being named in his memoirs as “A new young actor in the company of exceptional promise”.

Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet holds the title for the youngest person to accrue six Oscar nominations, and it’s easy to see why she has become a global superstar.  She also starred as the leading lady in Titanic (1997), the highest grossing film of all time!

Colin Firth

Currently one of the UK’s most successful exports, Colin Firth has won the BAFTA award for Best Actor for the last two years, and an academy award in 2011 for his portrayal of King George VI in The King’s Speech (2011). A staple in the UK scene for many years, he is also well known for his role as Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice (1995).

Helen Mirren

Always destined for stardom, at the tender age of 20 Helen Mirren joined The National Youth Theatre and starred in a production of Anthony and Cleopatra at The Old Vic. Over the past 46 years she has gone from strength to strength, working in theatre with the Royal Shakespeare Company and picking up a hefty amount of awards for her film  and television work, including an Oscar for The Queen (2006).

DREAM HOUSE is released in cinemas on November 25th.
