New Single From Jo Birchall

Jo Birchall’s new single ‘Don’t Let It Go To Your Heart’ is an impassioned and upbeat love song that inspires strength through adversity. Co–written with Matt Prime (Eliza Doolittle, Will Young, Kelly Clarkson, Sophie Ellis-Bextor) ‘Don’t Let It Go To Your Heart’ fuses catchy melodies and country influences in a track that is brought to life through Jo’s vivacious vocals. The song was written in Nashville while Jo was recording with Oliva Newton-John’s band at a time when she was signed to Gary Barlow’s True North label.

The second single from her debut ‘Something To Say,’ Jo cements her status as a down-to-earth artist with star quality who knows when to hold back and when to let her emotions come to the fore. It’s that innate knack for the song that informs her album, whether on the intimately personal ballads such as ‘Unanswered’ or the more celebratory songs such as first single ‘Wonderful.’ Jo draws on all aspects of her life thus far to deliver a story of triumph over tragedy.

Throughout the album, Jo sprinkles moments that reflect her own voice and her own situation. The title track was one of the first written specifically for the album and proved a breakthrough for how Jo wanted her music to sound. While the finished product is co-written with Charlie Dore (Tina Turner, George Harrison, Celine Dion), ‘Something To Say’ was also the first song she played to her management company and as such marks a real moment of maturity for her as a songwriter.

With Jo improvising melodies and bringing lyrics to the table, other songwriters on the album include the likes of Danny Schogger (who wrote ‘Unanswered’ with Jo and Charlie Dore), Grant Black (Olly Murs) and Wayne Hector (James Morrison, JLS, James Blunt), who provided ‘Woman,’ a song previously performed by Toni Braxton. ‘I Don’t Wanna Fall In Love’ is co-written with Malpass, Kennedy, Engelina Andrina (Kylie Minogue) and Andreas Hemmeth (aka DJ Encore), while famed country songwriter Jerry Abbott co-wrote ‘Her Name’. Meanwhile ‘All About Love’, which was written by Jo after the album had been finished, was included after receiving attention from other artists.
