The Good The Bad – 023

Danish surf rockers The Good The Bad, or TGTB as they are often known, release ‘023’ from their acclaimed sophomore album ‘From 018-033’ on 20 February.

The track is only two minutes or so long and the trio speed through it at a frantic pace. There is a tremendous energy to the music and the guitar riffs combine with the pounding drums to create a rhythm that thrills.

TGTB are an unusual band. All of their songs are numbered rather than named and the only vocals are screams and snarls that don’t sound at all out of place in their ultra aggressive music.

‘023’ starts with a roar that could be a motor bike engine revving up, ready for action. Then the guitars begin to grumble and the drums pound as the tempo rises. A high pitched voice in the background hints at violence. Then the voice breaks through but only momentarily as the guitars take over once more. The track ends as suddenly as it had begun.

This isn’t your usual single. It’s simple in some ways, but there is a recurring riff that sticks in your head. It certainly isn’t background music, like a lot of instrumentals can become. This one is in your face and grabbing your attention.

And check out the rather fine video that depicts two young men fighting. It fits very nicely with the music. Here’s a link: [link]

The Good The Bad are Adam Olsson (The Adam) on lead guitar, Johan Lei Gellett on drums and Manoj Ramdas (ex-The Raveonettes) on baritone guitar.
