The Big Bang Review

Presented as a 1940’s neo-noir, with tones of Sin City, this film has some interesting styles and scenes. But it doesn’t mask a poor plot, poor script and sloppy editing. It’s a shame as there are a lot of recognisable faces, but their lacklustre performances make the story even less convincing.

Antonio Banderas stars  as Ned Cruz, a privated detective who is searching for the elusive Lexie, a stripper who knows the location of $30 million worth of diamonds. Unfortunately for her, her ex-boyfriend – a 7’ boxer the anger management issues – wants them back. Then there’s another plot going on with a gazillionaire who has built the Hadron Collider in New Mexico. I’m not sure what I can say about that to make it any clearer.

The film is non-sensical, it looks cheap and the acting is fuzzy, I’m guessing because they’ve realised that it makes no sense at all. The sikh security guards seem gimmicky, the albino midget is a side plot that has no relevance and Snoop Dogg as a porn director is just distracting. There is no drama, no tension you won’t care about the big reveal at the end, you won’t care if they live or die and you certainly won’t care about the atoms have collided or not.

Not a film for science-fiction fans, crime-thriller fans or fans of film.
