Corman’s World: Exploits Of A Hollywood Rebel Review

If it were not for the sheer volume of names involved in this by the numbers documentary it would be but a passing fancy for anyone remotely interested in film history. Corman’s World is a 90 minute document of the now well known film-maker who gave many a film-maker his start in film.

Despite getting a look at one of his most recent low-rent productions the main emphasis for this is Corman’s battle as a film maker from the start of his career up through to the late 70’s. And this is the real shame. The film doesn’t focus too much on the 80’s 90’s or 2000s at all as it suddenly leaps ahead in time to Corman finally receiving the much earned “Honorary” Oscar for his contribution to film in general.

Ok so the film would have been twice the length if it detailed his exploit in the latter decades of his career, but it would probably have been of as great interest as the early part. And a 3 hour documentary on Roger Corman is not something any fan would shy away from.

Instead the film-makers decide to focus on the really big names that got their start through his work from jack Nicholson to Martin Scorsese. And they are all pretty much here to talk and pay tribute to the man – particularly Nicholson who finds time to get cheeky and even emotional about the break Corman supplied him.

Worth watching for sure, but you will come away wanting more.
