Glaswegian electronica artist Waterson was recently called “Scotland ’s electronic soul sensation” by quirky movie star Alan Cumming and The Scotsman said of his live show, “quite simply Waterson brings the house down”.
A creative entrepreneur, Waterson has now set up his own boutique label, Basquiat Beats, with first signings being Victoria Wilson James (Soul II Soul/ Shamen) and rising soul talent James Follette. Other releases include the legendary Billie Ray Martin (S-Express). A whirling mass of creativity, Waterson also offers something back into the music community in the form of a music apprenticeship in East London, mentoring 30 teenagers about their music business ideas, coaching, networking and leading them through the minefield of the modern music industry.
Basquiat Beats is Waterson in label form. His creativity and identity is stamped on everything that leaves the London office from music to advice, from creativity to fashion. A modern day Wonka factory of musical creativity and ethics!
Previous hits include the Pete Tong discovery and UK download top ten, ‘I Love Linda’ (Kinky Malinki), after-hours anthem ‘Strip Down’ (Junior Boys Own) with Smokin’ Jo and underground club smash ‘Fa Fa Feel’.
Waterson started life as a contemporary dancer, where he was a full-time member of Matthew Bourne’s innovative theatre company ‘Adventures In Motion Pictures’. He created roles in the original production of the TONY-award winning ‘Swan Lake’ in New York, Los Angeles & London plus many other hit shows around the world.
His most recent solo single ‘When You Tell Me That You Love Me’ was playlisted on Capital FM, Billboard USA, KVB FM and Ministry of Sound, reaching number 6 on the Hype Machine Twitter Chart, number 1 on the Media2Radio chart, “single of the week” on Freersounds and inclusion in the Ibiza Buzz Chart 2011 as well as being number 7 in the ‘Best of 2011 Lists’ on both Ministry of Sound Radio and the Simply Good Music blog.
Spring 2012 sees the re-release of ‘When You Tell Me That You Love Me’ on Ross Allen’s Meltdown Music Recordings. The package will include mixes from club-kid-done-good Kris Di Angelis, Deep Medi Music’s Silkie and Giles Peterson favourite EVM128.
