The Slow Readers Club - Feet On Fire
Album Review

The Slow Readers Club – Feet On Fire

Feet on Fire is the second single from Manchester four piece The Slow Readers Club’s debut album, which comes out this summer.

The mix of pulsing electronic sounds and strident guitar chords, typical of the band’s fusion of indie and electric music, gives Feet On Fire great energy from the off. The lyrics tell of the consequences of a one night stand, when the object of short term affection then becomes a stalker. While there is an upbeat feel musically throughout the fast paced song it is clear that the situation gets progressively worse. And the final message is that the emotional cost of short term pleasure can be high.

B-side She Wears A Frown is a slightly slower trick, the keyboards and bass prominent behind the vocal, which echoes nicely in places. It’s a decent song although the high pitched vocal delivery towards the end doesn’t work so well.

The Slow Readers Club have an interesting sound that marries electronic and guitar based music well. Feet On Fire is a lively single with a story that many will relate to and a modern uptempo sound that is definitely radio friendly.

As well as being offered by the usual download outlets the single is also available as a limited edition CD, with 600 signed and numbered copies being sold through the band’s web site.
