New York, melodic, rock/pop trio, FUN., has today announced details of a forthcoming London headline show, which will take place at Camden’s Barfly on May 14. The band will also release their huge, breakthrough single ‘We Are Young (feat. Janelle Monae)’ on the same date (May 14) and their new album Some Nights will follow on May 28.
The trio (Nate Ruess – lead vocals, Andrew Dost – multi-instrumentalist, vocals, and Jack Antonoff – guitar, vocals) has created a whirlwind of success stateside over the past few weeks. ‘We Are Young’ shot to the #1 spot in the Billboard 100, Soundscan Hot Digital Tracks and U.S. iTunes chart after its defining moment on the Chevrolet Chevy Sonic Super Bowl ad. It’s the first time in over decade that a rock band has made a #1 Billboard debut spot in the Hot 100. ‘We Are Young’, which features the acclaimed Janelle Monae, still remains the #1 streamed track on Spotify (since mid-February) and has sat firmly at #1 on the Hot Digital Tracks and U.S. iTunes for four consecutive weeks, with sales now surpassing 2.1 million in the U.S. alone!
The band’s new album, Some Nights, released in America last month to critical acclaim, peaking at #1 on the US Rock and Alt Charts, and #3 on the Billboard 200. Yet, the praise doesn’t stop there. The official video for the track has received over 20 million hits on the band’s official YouTube channel and they recently graced the cover of Billboard magazine, as well as landing hefty features in the likes of Rolling Stone, Spin and New York Times.
FUN. began in 2008 when the band assembled diverse inspirations into their own irresistible and freewheeling pop songcraft. The band drew immediate attention for their contemporary rethinking of classic 70’s pop, where ornate arrangements and inspired orchestrations meet present-day rock ‘n’ roll. They decided to raise the stakes with Some Nights by teaming with noted producer Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Drake). The band and Bhasker have worked to evolve the idiosyncratic FUN. sound by marrying their robust melodies with elements of hip-hop.
They have become a household name overnight and now it’s time for them to show the UK just why.
