Parlophone Records are pleased to announce the release of Richard Hawley’s new single, ‘Leave Your Body Behind You’.
‘Leave Your Body Behind You’ finds Hawley, inspired by the grief felt at the passing of friends, contemplating our place in the cosmos, coming on all 13th Floor Elevators in a celebratory valediction – urging us to accept how tiny we are in the grand scheme of things and to try and make the most of the time we have. Hawley says of the song, “So much damage has been done to this world by people who get all their knowledge from one book – be it The Bible or whatever.” Adding, “If we could just allow ourselves to be liberated by the fact that this is our only time here, we could just get on with what really matters. I really think we could have put a man on the moon 1,000 years ago if we accepted that.”
The song perfectly encapsulates what is to be found on Hawley’s forthcoming album, ‘Standing At The Sky’s Edge’, out May 7th. Recorded at Sheffield’s Yellow Arch Studio in 2011, the album marks a seismic shift in direction for Hawley. A euphoric, sonic assault on the senses, channelling elements of psychedelia, space rock and ragas with heavy riffs and raw, visceral guitar solos – as well as more familiar, tender moments – it will surprise Hawley fans and peers alike.
‘Leave Your Body Behind You’ will be available as a one-track digital download on April 2nd, followed by the release of a 10” vinyl version (b/w new track ‘You Haunt Me’), which will be the first single release through the Richard Hawley Singles Club, available exclusively via Independent record shops for Record Store Day (from Saturday 21 April) and from Hawley’s website. The Singles Club will be a series of 10” singles, b/w exclusive bonus tracks, to be released throughout the next 12 months (more information available soon at: link ). The two-track download will be available on May 7th.
Richard Hawley will play the London HMV Forum on 8th June – tickets are available now from link / 0844 811 0051. He’ll also be headlining the Sunday night at the No Direction Home Festival on Sunday 10th June, and playing the main stage at Latitude Festival on Saturday 14th July.
