I spent most of Saturday judging the Scottish finals of the Live and Unsigned competition. It was a great day with around 60 unsigned acts, bands and solo artists, performing. The lucky few progressed to the next stage of the competition, and are now just one step away from the Grand Final at the O2 in London.
I was really impressed by the number of talented musicians there are out there, and especially with the younger performers. I think we could see a couple of future stars coming from this competition.
Thanks to the staff from Live and Unsigned for organising a great day – and good luck to all of those who got through!
The album charts have been a bit volatile in recent weeks, with Bruce Springsteen, the Military Wives and Katy Perry all having short spells at the top. Now it’s Madonna’s turn – and MDNA is a record breaker, giving Madge her twelfth number one, overtaking Elvis Presley at the top of that particular list.
There’s a wide range of new albums out today; the full list is below. And we have reviews of the releases from Cathy Jordan, Seeker Lover Keeper and Mari Wilson on the site already.
Over on the singles side, I couldn’t tell you who was number one until I looked it up two minutes ago. It’s Chris Brown who has also knocked Katy Perry off the top, if you’re interested. Does anyone actually bother to keep up these days?
A couple of reviews have been posted already here too: a new single from The Slow Readers Club and the excellent new one from BuryTheLadybird.
And talking of BuryTheLadybird, I’ve just posted an interview with the highly rated young Derby rock band. Have a read to find out more about a band that we will be hearing an awful lot more of.
As always, stay tuned to glasswork.co.uk for all your music news, videos and reviews over the next week.
