New Video and DJ Dates for Zinc

Mention Zinc to anyone with even a cursory knowledge of UK dancefloor history, and you're likely to be met with a nod of recognition.

Zinc's a veteran in the truest sense of the word: he's been around long enough to have been a crucial player in the evolution of several different strains of UK club music, and a regular fixture on dancefloors across the board. At this point it's hard to imagine what the scene would sound like today without his involvement in everything from jungle and drum 'n' bass to garage, early dubstep and bass-heavy house.

More recently, his Crack House and Sprung EP's have showcased the latest mutation of his sound, a virulent strain of house that draws influence from his entire musical past without sounding quite like anything else. Zinc's take on the genre is immediately distinctive, carrying itself with the buoyant energy of garage and the volatile swagger of jungle, but with a twist of UK urban pop. For definitive evidence, just listen to 2010's ubiquitous 'Wile Out', featuring Ms. Dynamite on scorching from.

Now with 'Goin In', his new single released through Rinse on 4th June, he's channelled the rudeness and immediacy of his 'Crack House' sound into something that's closer to pure pop than ever before. Featuring a vocal from States Of Emotion, 'Goin In' is still powered by the same combination of rapid-fire four-to-the-floor percussion, razor synths and sub-bass. But it's got an intense, staccato sort of energy that finds the vocal flung progressively higher by the track beneath him.

More so than any of Zinc's music before, which even at its most pop-friendly remained dense and moody, there's something bright and buoyant about 'Goin In' that's likely to make it equally at home in dark clubs and daytime festival fields. It finds Zinc continuing to do what he's always been skilful at: staying connected to current dancefloor sounds while carving out his out distinct niche.

Listen to Zinc live on Rinse FM / 1st & 3rd Thursdays of every month, 21:00 – 23:00 BST, 106.8 FM London or on link
