New Releases: 7 May 2012

Bank Holiday Monday or not, the music world moves ever onwards, and Glasswerk is here to keep you up to date with what’s happening. And there will be more, much more, over the week as we bring you news and reviews from across the musical spectrum.

There’s a bumper crop of albums out this week. Billy Vincent’s excellent debut ‘She’ is reviewed below and there are also releases from The Cribs and Keane. The album chart is still extremely volatile and the number one spot seems to change every week. Marina and the Diamonds took over when it was announced yesterday, but will she manage to buck the trend by staying at the top for more than one week?

I don’t bother so much about the singles chart these days, to be honest. Ever since radio play counted as part of the chart position I kind of stopped caring. It seems very odd to an old timer like me that you can get into the charts without selling so much as one copy of a single.

Still, The Gaslight Anthem’s new single, 45, is worth a listen as it gives an idea of what is to come from the forthcoming album. And I suppose a few folk might be looking to buy Engelbert Humperdinck’s new one. Just don’t expect me to review it!
