Niko - You’re So Boring
Album Review

Niko – You’re So Boring

It is hard to believe that this is the same Niko that I listened to and reviewed mere weeks ago.

In a world where Rihanna can knock out an album each year and seems to release a never ending run of singles, the swiftness of this follow up track is not cause for surprise at all.

No, it is simply because Niko seems to have changed tack completely for this wonderful slice of strung-out indie pop.

Her previous effort was a breezy hip-hop head nodder and if I had not known better, I would not have even assumed that the two tracks came from the very same person.

From the very first play I was hooked into the song, a lively little bass line drives the track, while with deadpan delivery Niko exclaims that ‘You’re so boring to me’, recounting the obvious downfall of a relationship that failed to impress.

Alongside the stark warning to future suitors to buck up their ideas, there is also an unmistakable twist of Santigold mixed into the musical equation, from the vocal tone, right through to the upbeat pay-off that the chorus provides.

The sparkling chorus, a blend of glamorous indie and directed vitriol certainly has all the workings of a fine-crafted earworm, that is likely to nestle in your consciousness and have you humming for days, and I imagine that this would make for an almighty crowd-pleaser when performed live.

I wonder how many other sides and hybrid styles there are of Niko that we are yet to see and I must admit that now I am very intrigued to see the direction that Niko’s forthcoming album will take when it eventually drops.
