Jamie Parisio – You Promised Me The Sea EP

Simplicity is something very hard to get right. Formerly of the rock band Fluid, London based Jamie Parisio has embarked on a solo career. And, with You Promised Me The Sea as his first solo release, it is the perfect stepping stone to kick off his new career.

At just 3 songs, and under 12 minutes long, some might say Parisio cuts it a bit short. But it is what is accomplished in these 12 minutes that shows the singer/songwriters raw talent, and his uncanny ability to inject a flowing melody into every chorus.

“Tangles Never Tire” kicks off the release, reminiscent of Ray LaMontagne almost instantly. Parisio’s boldly emotional lyrics are strong and hard hitting, as they are throughout the EP.

This is most seen in the final song, Macassa ’57. Parisio’s haunting voice travels with the song in typical storytelling structure. But, when coupled with the guitar work and ensuing harmony, the result is a treat.

As I said, simplicity is something very hard to do correctly. But, when it is pulled off, the result is something beautiful. It just goes to show what can be achieved with just a little work. Keep an eye out for Jamie Parisio, as I’m sure he’ll very soon become a household name.
