Bleech – Adrenalin Junkie

London rock trio Bleech release their new single Adrenalin Junkie on 28 May. The follow up to recent single Mondays is another fine track full of impassioned vocals, big guitars and pounding drums. As a taster for the album Nude, which will be out on 4 June, this track works very well.

The title is perfect for a band that specialises in high tempo and high voltage rock songs. The sister fronted duo, with Jennifer O’Neill on guitar and lead vocals, Katherine O’Neill on bass and vocals and Matt Bick at the drums, has developed a fine reputation as a live band to see. The trick now will be to capture that energy in their recorded work.

Adrenalin Junkie has an old style new wave feel to it, the guitar chords echoing behind strong vocals as the drums set a frantic pace. But there is a modern sheen too, in the form of the sharp production and straightforward rock arrangement.

There is initially a world weariness to the vocals, but then the adrenalin kicks in and the pace picks up. The song breaks half way through with the repeated line “I’m so used up” before it explodes into life once more with the anthemic chorus. At just under three minutes long this is exactly the type of track we should be hearing in the radio.

I’m now really looking forward to hearing the album.
